In May of 2020, the citizens of Richmond, Virginia took to the streets to protest racial inequality, police brutality and the monuments to confederate generals that line on our historical streets and city parks. As a result, African American artist and community activist, Hamilton Glass, chose to create a public art project that brought together artists from different cultural backgrounds to create murals that start conversation and heal the divides between us. That project is called Mending Walls. Er is geen stad in Nederland met zoveel beeldende kunst in de openbare ruimte als Rotterdam: een indirect gevolg van het verwoestende bombardement op 14 mei 1940. Tijdens de wederopbouw werden er honderden nieuwe kunstwerken geplaatst in de stad, om te herdenken, de leegtes op te vullen, en om de toekomst weer een nieuw gezicht te geven. Eén object dat het bombardement overleefde een reusachtige gevelsteen aan de Bijenkorf van architect Dudok op de Coolsingel raakt na de definitieve sloop van het gebouw in 1960 uit het oog verloren. Ruim veertig later wordt de steen echter herontdekt op een bedrijventerrein in Woerden. Great Salt Lake Hopeline is a community art project and interactive audio experience that invites callers to connect with Great Salt Lake by recording a voicemail story of hope, hearing sounds from the lake's shoreline, or listening to previously recorded voicemails from fellow callers. Callers can engage through our upcycled, mobile GSL Hopeline Phone Booth, which will pop up at events across Salt Lake City, or by dialing (979) GSL-HOPE.
