Operatie Onthechting, een podcast over de onverbloemde realiteit van oorlog.Marianne Ingleby erft het fotoarchief van haar opa Bruce Elkus, Amerikaans legerfotograaf. In 1944 vertrok hij naar het Japanse eiland Iwo Jima, bekend van een van de bloedigste slagen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Ze stuit op expliciete oorlogsbeelden, van dood en verderf of seks in legerbordelen. De foto's blijken destijds nooit gepubliceerd: te ontluisterend.  Marianne blijkt goud in handen te hebben. Ze is benieuwd naar de ervaringen van haar eigenzinnige opa, die naast honderden foto's ook aangrijpende brieven vanaf het front naliet. Wat heeft hij meegemaakt aan het front? Waarom maakte hij foto's buiten zijn opdracht? This October, the Catholic Courier, which is the Catholic newspaper for the 12-county diocese of Rochester, NY, will mark its 135th anniversary of its founding. To celebrate this milestone, the Rochester Catholic Press Association, which publishes the Catholic Courier, will host an art-gallery style exhibition offering a retrospective of historic and artistic photojournalism from the archives of the Catholic Courier and predecessor titles.To coincide with this exhibition, the Catholic Courier will bring you a special limited series podcast with past and present Catholic Courier photographers. more
