John Mraz, (California, 1943) es doctor en Historia por la Universidad de California y forma parte del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores. Ha dirigido diversos documentales y ha sido curador de muestras fotográficas internacionales. Su campo de investigación está enfocado a la historia audiovisual, gran parte de su trabajo se ha orientado a contar la historia de México y Cuba a través de fotografía, cine y video. Es autor de libros como Fotografiar la Revolución Mexicana: compromisos e íconos; Looking for Mexico: Modern Visual Culture and National Identity; Trasterrados: braceros vistos por los Hermanos Mayo; Nacho López, Mexican Photographer (2003), y La mirada inquieta: nuevo fotoperiodismo mexicano (1996), entre otros. En la conferencia que a continuación escucharás, el investigador estadounidense hace referencia a la importancia de los medios digitales en el trabajo de documentación y hace énfasis en la necesidad de estudiar las imágenes y no solo reproducirlas. Mraz habla también de cómo cada medio audiovisual (fotografía cine, video, etc.), aporta de manera diferente al proceso de investigación, y asegura que estos medios se están convirtiendo poco a poco en las herramientas esenciales de los historiadores.
