Specifically, the Public Information Officer is responsible for the dissemination of accurate and timely public safety information to the community through media releases and various publications. To further assist the media, the Sheriff's Public Information Officer routinely responds 'at scene' to serious incidents. Unfortunately, there are circumstances where certain information must be withheld in order to protect the constitutional rights of an accused suspect, to avoid interfering with an ongoing law enforcement investigation, or because it is legally privileged. The Sheriff's Public Information Officer serves as the conduit through which the public is made aware of matters that are of interest to our community. As the official spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, he handles inquires from the general public and the news media concerning routine incidents, reports, photographs, emergency situations and the release of all official information.
