Still Processing presumes you already have complicated feelings about Michael Jackson and want to sit with them, not solve them. Ratchet and Respectable presumes you already know what celebrity culture rewards. Black People Love Paramore presumes your taste was never monolithic. Since then, it has earned the rare distinction of being named a favorite by other critics. J Wortham stepped away for a book project, leaving Wesley Morris to host solo episodes and bring in guests. Poet and critic Hanif Abdurraqib joined to examine television theme songs. Writer Daphne Brooks came on to dissect pop culture hierarchies. The limitation is genuine. Lucas does not pretend those are different activities. In one breath, she covers the latest news about the Carters with the detail of a dedicated observer. From there, she connects it to something wider about Black women, visibility, and what the culture actually rewards.<\/p>\n\n      <p class=\"mp-p\">Lucas records solo most of the time. The show's personality is entirely her own, and that is both the appeal and the catch. Over a thousand episodes into its run, the catalog doubles as a rolling archive. It tracks how Black celebrity culture has moved across recent years, from Simone Biles to Don Lemon to Jamie Foxx. A recurring segment called Good Black News anchors each episode in quieter stories worth celebrating. Some listeners want debate and banter. For them, the solo format will feel thin. Loyal listeners know Lucas carries the whole thing herself, and she makes it look easy. The show launched in 2021 on the Maximum Fun network. Its very first episode was dedicated to Paramore, the band whose name it borrowed. That premise sounds like a punchline. The follow-through is genuinely sharp, though. These conversations reveal more about Black identity than most documentaries that open with a James Baldwin quote.<\/p>\n\n      <p class=\"mp-p\">The guest list proves the show is serious even when it is funny. Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore, showed up as a guest. She talked about the band's Black fanbase and her own connection to the community. NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour host Aisha Harris joined to dig into *NSYNC and early 2000s pop. Traci Thomas, who hosts The Stacks podcast, came on for a conversation about cults. New episodes drop every other Thursday. Anyone who wants short, punchy takes will bounce. The other is the deaths of Black victims who never became household names. Weekly episodes publish every Thursday. Some are deep dives into notorious cases like AJ Armstrong, who murdered his parents at sixteen. Others reach back in time. The 1984 murder of Catherine Fuller in Northeast DC gets the attention it deserved and rarely received when it happened. Research and dark humor travel together in every episode.<\/p>\n\n      <p class=\"mp-p\">Kristin and their mother Nikki join episodes regularly. Listener reviews consistently single out Nikki's commentary as the element the show would miss most without her. That family energy makes what could be a punishing subject survivable. Beyond them, the show distributes through iHeartPodcasts, one of the world's largest podcast networks, and production quality reflects that partnership. The limitation is direct: this show does not flinch. Cases are graphic, and neither host softens the details. The upside is exactly that.
