money is concentrated and steady. The top 15 advertisers spent a combined $361 million across the first half of 2026, holding near $60 million every month. Almost none of that spend is B2B.

B2B podcast sponsorship runs on different logic. Consumer brands buy reach. You are buying a room. A show with 3,000 listeners who run security at Series B companies can beat one with 300,000 general listeners.

This guide covers what that purchase actually involves. It is paying a show to reach business buyers through a host read endorsement. Host read sponsorships run $25 to $40 CPM, and business and technology shows regularly clear $40. How many podcasts actually take B2B sponsors?

Most planning conversations open with the wrong number. The total podcast count tells you nothing useful. What matters is how many shows carry sponsors already.

43.1K

Shows indexed that already carry sponsors

11.4K

Beats and categories those shows sit across

$361M

Spent by the top 15 podcast advertisers in H1 2026

Those first two figures come from the MillionPodcasts podcast directory, which lets you filter shows by sponsor history alongside listener demographics.

A show with sponsor history tells you three things at once. Slots exist. Someone else already decided this audience was worth paying for. And the host has read an ad before, so they will not sound stiff doing it.

The reverse signal matters just as much. A show that has never carried a sponsor may have no rate card and no ad slot in its edit. It may also have no idea what to charge you.

Why the leaderboard looks consumer and the middle does not

Magellan AI's March 2026 ranking makes the split obvious. Quince led at $6.5 million, followed by BetterHelp at $5.9 million and Amazon at $5.8 million. Twelve of the top 15 increased spend that month.

Those are reach buys, and sports was the leading genre for most of them. A $40,000 flight on a security podcast never registers next to a $6 million consumer campaign. Absence from the leaderboard is not absence from the channel.

        Pro tip

Before you look at any show, write down how many closed deals would make you buy a second flight. Agree that number with finance first. Channels get cancelled in month two because nobody set the expectation in month zero.

2. What B2B podcast sponsorship costs in 2026

Rates move by show size, format, and placement. Acast's 2026 planning benchmarks put pre recorded network ads at $15 to $30 CPM. Host read sponsorships on individual shows run $25 to $40.

Business, finance, and technology shows sit above that band, regularly commanding $40 CPM or more. Their listeners are worth more per thousand, so the shows charge accordingly. General entertainment and comedy sit at the lower end.

Format

2026 CPM benchmark

What you are actually buying

Pre recorded, network bought

$15 to $30

Scale and efficiency. The host's voice is not attached to your claim.

Host read, single show

$25 to $40

Endorsement. The host's credibility carries your message.

Host read, business or finance show

$40 and above

Concentration. Fewer listeners, far more of them buyers.

Work out the episode cost before you negotiate

The arithmetic is simple. Downloads per episode, multiplied by CPM, divided by 1,000. A show with 12,000 downloads at a $40 CPM costs $480 per episode. A six episode flight is $2,880 in media.

Knowing that number changes the conversation. Many B2B shows quote a flat fee instead of a CPM, and the flat fee is often higher than the maths supports. Ask which one they are quoting.

Comparing these CPMs against your LinkedIn CPM is the most common budgeting error in B2B. Search and social capture buyers already evaluating. Sponsorship creates the familiarity that puts you on the list first. Judge it on cost per influenced opportunity instead.

For rate breakdowns by genre, show size, and platform, see our guide to podcast advertising cost and CPM rates.

        Pro tip

Ask the host which sponsors in your category came back for a second flight. A renewal tells you more than any download number on a media kit. One flight can be a mistake. Three is a verdict.

3. What you actually get for the money

A sponsorship is not one product. The rate you are quoted covers a specific bundle, and most of that bundle is negotiable once you know the vocabulary.

Placement sets most of the price

Pre roll runs before the content, mid roll sits inside it, post roll comes after. Mid roll carries the premium, because the listener has already committed to the episode. Post roll is cheapest and reaches the fewest people.

Read length usually runs 15, 30, or 60 seconds. A 60 second mid roll is the standard B2B unit. A complex product needs room to explain the problem before naming the solution.

Who reads it changes what it is worth

A host read is an endorsement in the host's own words. An announcer read is a produced spot that happens to run in a podcast. Programmatic inventory is neither, and it prices accordingly.

For B2B, host read almost always wins. Your buyer needs to hear a workflow problem described accurately by someone they already trust. A produced spot cannot do that.

Baked in or dynamically inserted

A baked in read lives inside the episode file permanently. Listeners who find the show two years from now still hear you. A dynamically inserted ad is swapped out when the campaign ends.

Baked in is worth paying more for on evergreen shows with deep back catalogues. It is worth less on daily news shows nobody revisits. Ask which one the rate assumes.

What to negotiate beyond the read

These five items rarely appear on a rate card, and hosts frequently agree to them:

Category exclusivity for the duration of your flight, so a competitor cannot buy the next slot.

Video simulcast rights covering the clips cut from your read.

A show notes link carrying your URL on every sponsored episode.

One social post from the host's own account, not the show account.

First refusal on the following flight, which locks your rate before renewal season.

Check whether the show publishes video

Discovery has moved, and sponsorship rates have not fully caught up. Edison Research found 37% of weekly podcast consumers now name YouTube as the service they use most for podcasts. That figure was 31% two years earlier.

Research from Sounds Profitable puts YouTube at 40% of most used platforms, against 18% for Spotify and 11% for Apple Podcasts. Add social platforms and 61% of listeners found their favourite show there.

A show with an active video feed turns one ad read into clips that circulate for months. An audio only show gives you the read and nothing after it, usually at the same price.

        Pro tip

Ask for the video simulcast in the first email, before rates come up. Once a number is on the table it becomes a concession you have to trade for. Asked early, it is usually just included.

4. What Vanta's run proves, and what it does not

Vanta is the best documented B2B sponsorship case of the last five years. The company automates security compliance, helping firms reach certifications like SOC 2.

In late 2019 it had a $3 million seed round and needed early stage founders. VP of Sales Eric Martin bought a sponsorship on This Week in Startups. Jason Calacanis's show had exactly that audience built in.

Early numbers were modest. Vanta built a landing page for podcast traffic and volume stayed low. There was just enough signal to keep going.

Then marketing VP Sarah Scharf started hearing what the dashboard could not show. Prospects on sales calls said things like, "I have such a parasocial relationship with Vanta. I just hear and think about you guys all the time!"

Vanta added the CISO Series for security buyers and kept the founder shows running. The CISO ads talked about SOC 2 framework detail. The operator ads talked about startup velocity. Same product, different angle per room.

Three years later Vanta was a unicorn, and it credits podcasts among the channels that got it there.

What the case does not prove

It does not prove sponsorship built the company. Vanta raised capital, shipped product, and hired sellers throughout. Treating this as proof that podcasts create unicorns will set expectations you cannot meet.

What it does prove is narrower and more useful. The effect appeared in sales conversations months before attribution caught it, and the team kept spending anyway. Most teams cancel at exactly that point.

        Pro tip

Ask your sales team to log the exact words prospects use about how they found you. Vanta's clearest signal arrived as an offhand remark on a call, not as a row in a dashboard.

5. Why a host endorsement beats your own site

Listeners spend hundreds of hours with a host before they ever hear your name. By the time your ad runs, they have already decided whether that person is worth believing.

Acast's research with Nielsen found 63% of respondents described the hosts they listen to as trustworthy. Another 80% said they trust recommendations from hosts they currently follow.

Read those numbers carefully, because they are often inflated elsewhere. The finding is that listeners trust their own hosts. It is not a claim that podcasts outrank every other medium for everyone.

Brief the host, do not script them

A host handed a rigid script produces a generic endorsement. A host given talking points and real product access produces something specific. Specificity is the one thing a listener cannot get from your website.

Give them a working account with sample data at least two weeks before recording. Tell them the exact job title you want to reach. Then tell them what they must not say, such as competitor names or unreleased features.

Everything else should be theirs. A host who has run one real workflow says something unrehearsed, and unrehearsed is what your buyer is listening for.

        Key takeaway

You are not buying airtime. You are borrowing a relationship the host spent years building. Scripting that relationship into a corporate read destroys the only thing that made the placement worth its premium.

6. How long before sponsorship shows results?

There is a real disagreement here, and it is worth naming rather than hiding.

Podscribe's benchmark data reports that conversions slow roughly three weeks after exposure. It concludes this validates a 30 day attribution window as the industry standard. That finding draws heavily on direct response advertisers, where a listener can act alone in one session.

B2B breaks that shape entirely. Your listener may hear the ad in January and mention you in a meeting in April. They then arrive through branded search in August with no source attached.

Reading a B2B flight on a 30 day window measures the wrong thing. Retrofitting this is impossible.

7. How to find shows with open sponsor slots

Sourcing is the step most teams do worst. They start from shows they already know, which are usually the largest in the category. Large means expensive and diluted.

Work in this order instead:

Write the question first. Name the result that would make you buy a second flight. Agree it with finance before you look at a single show.

Filter for sponsor history, not size. Start from shows that already carry sponsors. Proven inventory beats a large download number every time.

Layer the listener filters. Narrow by listener type, income band, location, and beat until the audience is your buyer rather than your user.

Drop dormant shows. Check the latest episode date. Cut anything that has not published in 30 days, because dormant shows still sell advertising.

Unlock contacts and export. Reveal the host, producer, or booker email. Export the shortlist to CSV or Excel and run outreach in your own tool.

Who actually answers when you unlock a contact

Step 5 names three roles, and they are nowhere near equally likely. In August 2026 we pulled every business and technology show in our own index that carries sponsors, holds a contact, published inside 30 days, and draws 10K to 50K monthly listeners. That returned 204 shows holding 396 contacts, and the roles broke down like this.

Host or co host on 186 of the 204 shows, which is 91% of them.

No host at all on the other 18 shows, where the contact is a brand or network inbox.

Producer, booker, or partnership lead on 4 shows across the entire set.

Two contacts per show at the median, rising to seven on the deepest one.

Only five contacts in 396 carried a producer, manager, booker, or partnership title. Everything else was a host, or a publisher address riding along with the show under a name like a magazine or a network.

So write the first email to the host. At this show size that is the person who quotes the rate, and the sponsors who came back for a second flight live in their memory rather than in a media kit. Treat a booker as the exception you occasionally get.

One scope note. Those figures describe active business and technology shows in the 10K to 50K band, not podcasts generally. Bigger shows and network owned feeds route enquiries very differently.

Doing that by hand across a few hundred candidates takes weeks. Browsing by category in the MillionPodcasts podcast directory shows you what a beat holds before you start narrowing it.

Once the shortlist holds, qualify every show against our podcast vetting checklist for advertisers. If you sell security software, our cybersecurity podcast advertising guide runs the same process on one vertical.

Build the sponsor shortlist this guide runs on

Filter 3M+ podcasts down to shows that already carry sponsors and whose listeners are your buyers. Narrow by listener type, income, location, beat, and audience size. Spreading a small budget feels like risk management. It guarantees a result you cannot read.

What to do next

If your buyers listen and your finance team can wait two quarters, this is a straightforward buy. Start with one show, four to six mid roll episodes, and a measurement plan agreed before the first read airs.

If your leadership judges every channel on same month pipeline, fix that conversation before you spend anything. B2B podcast sponsorship will look like a failure long before it is one.

The smallest useful next step takes about thirty minutes. Name the exact job title you need to reach. Then find five shows whose listeners match it and that already carry sponsors.

8. B2B podcast sponsorship: quick answers

What is B2B podcast sponsorship?

B2B podcast sponsorship is paying a show to place your brand in front of its listeners, usually through a host read ad. You are buying an existing audience and the trust its host has already built, not renting attention from a feed.

How much does podcast sponsorship cost for a B2B brand?

Plan on 15 to 30 dollars CPM for pre recorded network ads. Host read sponsorships on single shows run 25 to 40 dollars CPM. Business, finance, and technology shows regularly clear 40 dollars because their listeners are worth more per thousand.

How many podcasts accept sponsors?

Our index holds 43.1K shows that already carry sponsors, out of 3M plus podcasts. That subset matters more than the total. A show with sponsor history has proven inventory and a rate it will quote.

Which placement should a B2B sponsor buy?

Mid roll, read by the host, baked into the episode file. Mid roll reaches listeners who are already committed to the episode. A baked in read stays in the back catalogue instead of expiring when the campaign ends.

How many episodes should a B2B brand sponsor?

Four to six episodes on one show, rather than one episode each across six shows. Repetition on a single audience is what builds recall. A single insertion cannot tell you whether the show or the ad underperformed.

How long before podcast sponsorship shows results?

Conversions typically slow about three weeks after exposure, which is why 30 days is the standard reporting window. B2B breaks that pattern, because buyers often return months later through branded search. Read direct response weekly, brand lift at eight to twelve weeks, and pipeline quarterly.

References

      Inside Radio.
